Release date and platforms
GTA 6 comes out on Thursday, November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has held that date since November 2025, after two delays. Sony markets the game as playing best on PS5, but both consoles get it on the same day.
Preload starts a week early
If you pre-ordered digitally, you can start downloading on November 12. The boxed version contains a download code instead of a disc, so physical buyers can preload too. Rockstar has not published a file size or an exact unlock time yet. Our preload page keeps track of what is official.
Price and editions
There are two editions. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 in the US, and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Ultimate adds vehicles, weapons, outfits, shops, and side content spread across the story, but no gameplay advantage. A digital purchase before November 20 adds the Vintage Vice City Pack to either edition.
Single-player, no microtransactions at launch
Rockstar calls GTA 6 a single-player experience at launch. After the Extended Look in August, the studio also said the game launches without microtransactions and that no generative AI was used to make it. There is no news yet about an online mode.
No PC version on day one
A PC version has not been announced. A GamesBeat report in October pointed to the first quarter of 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed it. We keep the latest on our PC status page.
The story and the setting
You play as Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, who get pulled into a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida after an easy score goes wrong. The heart of the map is Vice City, with five more regions around it. See where they sit on our schematic map.
Music on two different dates
GTA VI: The Album, with 34 original songs, arrives on November 19 alongside the game. The original score by Justice follows on December 11. Six in-game radio stations were previewed in October.
What is still unknown
- The official download size and the exact unlock time on November 19.
- When reviews go live.
- Any plans for an online mode or a PC release date.
